Compare the steel grade and protection, thermal bridging, insulation and vapour strategy, fire design, junction details, foundation loads and the evidence available for the exact model. The frame material alone does not guarantee energy performance or Irish compliance.

• No timber-movement warranty exclusions. Log cabins typically exclude settlement cracking — steel-frame doesn't move.
• Better U-values per millimetre of wall. Composite panels achieve thermal performance log walls can't match without doubling thickness.

Steel, log and timber-frame homes can all work when their full build-ups are properly designed and documented. Compare the exact wall, roof and floor performance, maintenance, openings, transport, foundations and Irish completion route rather than choosing on the frame label alone. A 13m² studio does not use the Class 3A dwelling exemption, whose qualifying size band is 32–45m². If it is non-habitable, separate garden-structure rules may apply.
